Chicago White Sox -- Optioned P Robert Ellis, C Chris Tremie, IF Olmedo Saenz and IF Chris Snopek to Triple-A Nashville. Optioned P Mike Bertotti and OF Jimmy Hurst to Double-A Birmingham.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Optioned OF Roger Cedeno and SS Juan Castro to Triple-A Albuquerque; P Jesus Martinez and 2B Miguel Cairo to Double-A San Antonio; and P Roberto Duran and IF Willis Otanez to Single-A Vero Beach. Will send SS Wilton Guerrero from Albuquerque to San Antonio. Will send SS Mike Metcalfe from San Antonio to Vero Beach.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Agreed to terms with IF Manuel Lee and IF Luis Rivera on minor-league contracts.

Seattle Mariners -- Signed P Bobby Ayala, P Jeff Nelson (Catonsville High, Catonsville CC), P Derek Lowe, P Shawn Estes, IF Giomar Guevara and OF Darren Bragg to one-year contracts. Renewed the contracts of P Tim Davis and P Bill Risley.

Texas Rangers -- Optioned P Mark Brandenberg to Triple-A Oklahoma City; and P Kerry Lacy, P Jerry Martin, P Ritchie Moody and SS Guillermo Mercedes to Double-A Tulsa. Moody will be placed on the disabled list and stay in Florida for extended spring training.

Colleges

New Mexico -- Announced that Don Flanagan will, indeed, coach women's basketball. Flanagan had accepted the job April 7, then reneged, saying coaching would take away from time with his family.

Texas-San Antonio -- Named Tim Carter men's basketball coach and signed him to a three-year contract.

Weber State -- Signed men's basketball coach Ron Abegglen to a seven-year contract.

Hockey

Montreal Canadiens -- Returned RW Chris Murray to AHL Fredericton.

New York Islanders -- Recalled C Chris Taylor from IHL Denver. Recalled G Eric Fichaud from QMJHL Chicoutimi.

Washington Capitals -- Sent RW Pat Peake and RW Martin Gendron to AHL Portland.
