Architects' Roundtable to meet at college

The Historic Architects' Roundtable, better known as the the Dead Architects' Society, will meet at noon tomorrow at Western Maryland College's McDaniel Hall Lounge.

A slide show and lecture on the work of Jackson Gott will be presented as part of the yearlong series celebrating the centennial of "Little" Baker Chapel.

Mr. Gott gave the Old Campus at Western Maryland its distinctive look when, in 1888, he unified the Old Main complex by designing the two-story porch that ran along its 350-foot facade and the three towers.

He also designed the President's House, Alumni Hall, the addition to Levine Hall, and the old Library and Administration Building (now Peterson Hall), along with Baker Chapel.

All of those buildings are listed with the National Register of Historic Places.

Participants are invited to bring a lunch. Beverages will be provided.

Information: 857-2290.

County ends wet weather percolation testing

Effective at the close of the business day yesterday, wet weather percolation testing ended in Carroll County.

The Carroll County Health Department has determined that soil moisture content, percolated water levels and ground water levels do not reflect normal conditions, so percolation testing of soils would lead to inaccurate test results.

That is the result of below average precipitation since fall.

Inaccurate test results could in turn lead to premature failures of septic systems, which can constitute a health hazard.

Those who have scheduled percolation tests may apply for refunds of fees by calling the Health Department at 876-1884.
