Five file for three council seats

Two incumbents and three newcomers to town politics will vie for three council seats in New Windsor.

Candidates had until yesterday to file for ballot spots in the May 9 election.

Councilman Ronnie Blacksten is seeking his second term, and Councilman Terry Petry will run for a third. Councilman D. Kenneth Grimes, whose term also expires next month, announced his retirement recently after 20 years on the panel.

Also running will be Kevin G. Null, Paul Garver Jr. and J. Edward Green.


* Union Bridge: Union Bridge firefighters responded to a call of electric wires down in the 1100 block of Winters Church Road at 8:50 p.m. Sunday. They were out for 21 minutes.

* Taneytown: Firefighters from Taneytown were dispatched to a call of illegal burning in the 100 block of Carnival Drive at 6:50 p.m. Sunday. They were out for 13 minutes.

Taneytown firefighters responded to a pole fire at Commerce and York streets at 9:51 p.m. Saturday. They were out for 23 minutes.
