April 10, 1995

Howard County police have charged three female Atholton students involved in a tussle in which one of the girls was cut with a nail file.

Two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old were charged with assault, battery and disorderly conduct after the fight Tuesday, police said. The girls were suspended from school.

According to police, one of the girls was walking down the hallway filing her nails about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when a second girl traveling the halls confronted her, thinking the first girl had called her names. The two girls began fighting and the second girl was cut in the face with the nail file.

A third girl jumped in the fight to help the injured girl. School personnel and other students broke up the fight, police said.

The girls were released into the custody of their parents.
