POLICE

* Westminster: A resident of Union Street reported that someone stole a bag containing cash and paperwork from the top of her mailbox Wednesday. She estimated the theft at $231.

A resident of Avenel Circle reported that someone flattened three tires on his truck and scratched the left side while it was parked near his home Tuesday. He estimated the damage at $800.

An employee of Maryland Septic Tank Co. of Baltimore told police that someone broke the windshield and wiper on a backhoe parked at Western Maryland College on Tuesday. The damage is estimated at $300.

An employee of R. D. Bowman & Son feed company on Englar Road reported to state police someone forced two doors of the building and stole $685 Tuesday. Damage to the doors and a filing cabinet was estimated at $250.

FIRE

* Westminster: Westminster responded to a gas leak in a building in the 500 block of Jermor Lane at 9:44 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out 22 minutes.

Westminster, Reese and Pleasant Valley were dispatched to a house fire in the first block of Webster St. at 7:02 p.m. Wednesday. The first firefighters on the scene found heavy flames in one room of the house, but the blaze was confined to that room. Units were out 90 minutes. No one was injured and the state fire marshal is investigating.

Westminster responded to a brush fire in the 600 block of Cranberry Road at 6:33 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out 23 minutes.
