Odenton school, family group will hold 'Child Watch' tomorrow

Family Development Communities and Odenton Elementary School, 1290 Odenton Road in Odenton, are sponsoring "Child Watch" from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow. The Waugh Chapel Elementary PTA and the nationally advertised Heisman Fine Art Gallery Inc. will hold a benefit art show and auction at 6 p.m. Friday at the school, 840 Sunflower Drive in Odenton. Original oils, watercolors, enamels, etchings, lithographs and other graphics will be on sale. The auction begins at 7 p.m. after a one-hour preview of the art. Most of the auction items will have opening bids ranging from $60 to $150. A Collector's Corner also will be featured. The proceeds will be used for the Waugh Chapel Elementary PTA Inc. The O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road in Odenton, is accepting registration for golf lessons that will be taught by Ed Dosek, golf instructor at Anne Arundel Community College. The lessons are for beginners and intermediate players and will be held on seven consecutive Tuesdays beginning today. Mr. Dosek will hold two classes for the spring cycle; 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The first sessions will be at O'Malley Senior Center. Mr. Dosek will hand out the schedule for subsequent lessons, which will be held at the Night Hawk golf center. Registration is required. Information: 222-6227 or 621-9515.

Faith Community Church at Waugh Chapel Road and Route 3 North will present the Easter musical/dramatic presentation "Jesus Shall Reign" at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. April 14 and April 15. A flea market will be held at Odenton Elementary School from 8 a.m. until noon April 22. Artisans and businesses are welcome. You also can bring those treasures you've pulled down from the attic during spring cleaning. Spaces are available for $10. Refreshments will be available. The Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks is holding a program that is a must for all health- and fitness-conscious families. This program gives families a chance to walk together at an acceptable pace. The goal is for each family to walk about 50 miles, which is equivalent to the length of Anne Arundel County. Each participant from a family that accomplishes the minimum mileage will get an "I Can't Believe I Walked The Whole Thing!" award. The free program is funded by the state and will be held at Arundel Senior High School, 1001 Annapolis Road in Gambrills. Information: 222-7300.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has a packet of information for teens who want to stop smoking. The kit gives step-by-step directions for quitting and avoiding cigarettes. To get a free Quit Kit, call the department's Learn To Live line at (410) 222-7979. Callers also may request free smoking prevention material for youths, including posters, stickers and pamphlets about chewing tobacco. The health department also offers a brochure for adults called "Protect Our Kids: Don't Let Them Get Hooked on Tobacco!"
