Striking The Streak

April 02, 1995

Had there been no such thing as labor strike, Cal Ripken -- assuming he stayed healthy -- would've surpassed the Lou Gehrig's record of 2,130 games in Oakland on Aug. 18. That's not going to happen now, as owners consider new dates to start the season. The new schedule could include new twists, like more doubleheaders and fewer open dates, and it's impossible to predict things like rainouts. But if the start of the season is merely pushed back and the same schedule is used, these are the dates and sites Ripken could break the record.

Season opener .. Record breaker

April 17 ....... Aug. 31, Camden Yards vs. Oakland

April 21 ....... Sept. 2, Camden Yards vs. Seattle

April 24 ....... Sept. 5, Camden Yards vs. California

May 1 .......... Sept. 13, Camden Yards vs. Boston
