Stapler, Miller hit home runs in Glen Burnie win over Meade SOFTBALL ROUNDUP

Jen Stapler and Samantha Miller each homered yesterday as No. 1 Glen Burnie (2-0) posted a 14-0 softball win over visiting Meade (0-2).

Michelle Whelan added a double and Chris Napora hit a triple for the Gophers. Denise Warren pitched a complete game for Glen Burnie.

* Spalding 8, John Carroll 0: Crystal Henderson went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and four stolen bases to lead No. 2 Spalding (3-0) over visiting John Carroll. Crystal Ray struck out 13.

* Atholton 8, Oakland Mills 0: Kim Ruprecht threw a one-hitter as No. 5 Atholton (5-0) shut out visiting Oakland Mills. Ruprecht (5-0) had a perfect game through 4 1/3 innings.

* Centennial 10, Hammond 0: Kim May pitched a one-hitter as No. 6 Centennial (4-1) topped visiting Hammond. May had 12 strikeouts.

* IND 14, Catholic 4: Kristan Ehrman and Shannon Skopp each hit three-run home runs to lead No. 7 IND (3-1) over Catholic. Amy Cippollini pitched a complete game for the Indians.

* Arundel 4, North County 2: Mary Paxton had a two-run single and Kim Gonski had a run-scoring triple in a three-run fifth inning, lifting No. 8 Arundel (2-0) past visiting North County (0-2).

* Old Mill 5, Annapolis 4: Lora Newcomb scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning as host and No. 11 Old Mill (1-1) edged Annapolis (0-2). Christina Nutile pitched five innings to earn the win.

* Patterson 25, Lake Clifton 0: Jen Preston pitched a one-hitter and Jamie Locklear had a double and a home run to lead the visiting Clippers.

* Mercy 8, McDonogh 7: Meg Kline homered and Mercy rallied for a run in the bottom of the seventh to give Bridget Taber a win.
