El Sid Down To 226?

March 30, 1995|By Buster Olney

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Apparently, Sid Fernandez is very serious about this weight-loss stuff.

Orioles strength and conditioning coach Tim Bishop informed team management yesterday that he spoke with the left-hander on Tuesday, and that Fernandez said his weight was down to 226 pounds.

That would be a reduction of at least 36 pounds; Fernandez weighed 262 pounds the last time he stepped on the scales for the team last fall.

"That is great news," said Orioles manager Phil Regan. "I think that once other players see what he's done, that will give everyone on the team a boost."
