International Automobile Federation -- Will meet April 13 to hear appeals of the disqualifications of Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard for using irregular fuel at Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Chip Genassi Racing -- Entered cars for Jimmy Vasser and Bryan Herta and rookie Michael Greenfield for the Indianapolis 500.

Joe Gibbs Racing -- Announced that David Green will be standing by during Sunday's Food City 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race in case Bobby Labonte (cracked his left shoulder blade; atypical pneumonia) needs relief.

Baseball

Cincinnati Reds -- Added P Pete Magre. Acquired P Howard Farmer from the Montreal Expos for future considerations. Released P Chris Reed.

Cleveland Indians -- Traded IF Edgar Diaz to the Toronto Blue Jays for future considerations. Minor-league OF Alex Ramirez decided to join the replacements.

Kansas City Royals -- Released C Pat Bailey and C Joe Siwa.

Minnesota Twins -- Sent P Rod Biehl, P Mike Pavelka, P Daren Kizziah and P Phil Bryant to minor-league camp for reassignment. Released P Ryan Taylor, IF Joey Aragon, OF Tommy Griffith, OF Gregg Leavell and OF Pat Wright.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Assigned SS Erik Johnson to Double-A Charlotte.

San Diego Padres -- Signed IF-OF Cory Snyder to a minor-league contract with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Texas Rangers -- Released OF Dan Peltier. Assigned P David Baine to Single-A Charlotte. Traded SS Erik Johnson to the Pirates for a player to be named.

Colorado Silver Bullets -- Women's professional team named Mike King merchandise manager. He formerly was with Bankshot Basketball of Rockville, working in promotions for the Washington Bullets.

Sioux Falls Canaries (Northern League, Independent) -- Named former major-leaguer Dick Dietz coach.

College

NCAA -- Will investigate New Mexico State's men's basketball program for possible academic fraud violations.

ACC -- Named Maryland freshman attackman Andrew Whipple men's lacrosse Player of the Week after he had three goals and one assist in a 13-12 win against North Carolina.

Akron -- Named Dan Hipsher men's basketball coach.

Baylor -- Named Larry Brown men's assistant basketball coach.

Georgia -- Named Tubby Smith men's basketball coach.

Michigan State -- Extended the contract of women's basketball coach Karen Langeland for two years.

Muhlenberg -- Announced the resignation of AD Ralph Kirchenheiter.

Northeast Missouri State -- Promoted men's assistant basketball coach Jack Schrader to coach.

Rutgers-Camden -- Named Wilbur "Pony" Wilson men's basketball coach.

Football

4NFL -- Named Howard Handler VP of marketing for NFL Properties.

Denver Broncos -- Agreed to terms with DT Mike Lodish on a two-year contract.

Kansas City Chiefs -- Agreed to terms with QB Rich Gannon on a contract believed to be worth $1.4 million over two years; Gannon, who did not play in the NFL last year, played eight games with the Washington Redskins in 1993, starting four.

Miami Dolphins -- Traded TE Keith Jackson and a fourth-round draft pick to the Green Bay Packers for a second-round draft pick.

New England Patriots -- Re-signed unrestricted free-agent DE Aaron Jones, who has 7 1/2 sacks in two seasons with the club.

New Orleans Saints -- Signed free-agent QB Timm Rosenbach, who played with CFL Hamilton last season, to a two-year contract.

Rams -- Retained the rights to WR Jesse Hester (45 catches for 644 yards) by matching an offer sheet from the Seattle Seahawks. Signed free-agent TE Yonnie Jackson.

San Diego Chargers -- Signed CB David Pool, CB Brian Allred and LB Basil Proctor.

San Francisco 49ers -- Signed DE Junior Bryant and OT Kirk Scrafford.

Seattle Seahawks -- Signed LB Tyronne Stowe, who played last season with the Washington Redskins, to a two-year contract.

Birmingham Barracudas (CFL) -- Signed WR Reggie Thornton, OL York Kurinsky, LB Richard Cruz and DB Eric Everett.

Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL) -- Signed import WR Jemone Smith and import WR Reggie Brown.

Toronto Argonauts (CFL) -- Released FB Kevin Smellie, LB Paul Clatney and WR Paul Cranmer.

USA Hockey -- Named Wisconsin's Jeff Sauer coach of the U.S. national team.

Boston Bruins -- Recalled G John Blue from AHL Providence.
