Mount Hebron wakes up, rips Bryn Mawr, 10-4 GIRLS LACROSSE

Bryn Mawr came out fired up for its game against top-ranked Mount Hebron yesterday. The host Mawrtians started quickly, scoring on their first two shots.

Bad move.

"I think it shook [us] up," said Mount Hebron coach P.J. Kesmodel.

Mount Hebron then took over by scoring 10 of the next 12 goals -- led by Dani Vissers' four -- on the way to a 10-4 victory over No. 9 Bryn Mawr yesterday.

The three-time defending state champions had little trouble after the early going. Mount Hebron (2-0) kept possession nearly the entire game and had its pick of shots.

Shooting, in fact, proved the lone problem for the Vikings. They outshot Bryn Mawr, 27-13, but sometimes had trouble with their timing.

"We couldn't shoot," said Kesmodel. "The effort was there, [but] it's early in the season and we're not where we should be shooting."

Bryn Mawr (0-2) was where it wanted to be early. Charlotte Graham scored on the team's first shot 57 seconds into the game.

The Mawrtians came right back as Graham made the lead 2-0 just 46 seconds later on another close shot. But Mount Hebron then scored on four out of five shots for a 4-2 lead.

Vissers (four goals, one assist), Erin McGinnis (two goals, two assists) and Lynette Chastant (two goals) sparked the Vikings.

Bryn Mawr kept it close, however, with tough defense and a strong effort from goalie Alexa DeLoskey (12 saves).

Nancy Kim's goal with 31 seconds left in the half cut the lead to 5-3. But Mount Hebron dominated the second half even more than the first.

The Mount Hebron defense also kept the Bryn Mawr offense quiet. Kristen Foster made four saves for the Vikings in the second half, but her aggressive play broke up other chances and kept the Mawrtians scoreless until Emily Hickman found the net with two seconds left.
