Sykesville budget to be ready April 10

March 29, 1995

Sykesville town officials expect to have a rough draft of the fiscal 1996 budget ready for the April 10 Town Council meeting.

"We are waiting for information from a few more sources so that we can make revenue projections," said Matthew H. Candland, the town manager. "We should hear from those this week."

From April 11 to 30, the council will schedule work sessions on line items in the proposed budget. A public hearing could be scheduled as early as May 8.

The town adopted a 2-cent tax-rate increase last year, to 84 cents per $100 of assessed value.

Mr. Candland said it is too soon to say whether the rate will remain the same for next fiscal year.

"It is too early to tell whether we have to raise taxes," he said. "The decision will be based on revenue."

* Eldersburg: Sykesville responded to a brush fire in the 2100 block of Liberty Road at 6:48 p.m. Monday. Units were out for 20 minutes.
