Boston Red Sox -- Named John Cumberland pitching coach and Herm Starrette (a former Orioles pitching coach) bullpen coach.

Chicago White Sox -- Agreed to terms with P Donn Pall on a minor-league contract. Suspended minor-league P Rob Dibble for inappropriate conduct. Reassigned OF Shawn Buchanan to minor-league camp. Released C Bill Lindsey, P Mike Bailey and P Mike Taylor.

Cincinnati Reds -- SS Ricky Magdaleno (a second-round draft pick in 1992), P Blaine Beatty (a former Orioles prospect), P Chad Connors, P Tony Nieto and P Chris Reed agreed to be replacement players.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Added IF Jim Krevokuch and OF Jeff Conger to the major-league replacement roster.

Basketball

New York Knicks -- Activated F Anthony Mason after he completed a five-game, team-imposed suspension. Placed G Charlie Ward on the injured list.

Colleges

Big 12 Conference -- Named Steve Hatchell commissioner.

Jacksonville -- Announced the resignation of pitching coach Doug Corbett, a former Oriole, and announced that Corbett will sign with the Atlanta Braves as a replacement player.

Purdue -- Announced that senior LB Bart Conley has withdrawn from the university.

Football

Denver Broncos -- Agreed to terms with Washington Redskins G Mark Schlereth on a three-year deal.

Hockey

Florida Panthers -- Recalled D Stephane Richer from IHL Cincinnati. Reassigned C Steve Washburn from OHL Ottawa to Cincinnati.

Washington Capitals -- Recalled RW Martin Gendron from AHL Portland.
