1 killed, 3 hurt in crash

March 24, 1995

One person was killed and three others injured last night when the driver of a Jeep crossed the dividing line on Defense Highway in Crofton and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

Pronounced dead at the scene after being partially ejected from the Jeep was Thomas Morris Marcellino Jr., 29, of the 2900 block of November Court, Bowie.

Anne Arundel County police said Mr. Marcellino was driving a 1989 Jeep Cherokee southbound near Davidsonville Road about p.m. when for an unknown reason he crossed the center line and crashed into a northbound 1988 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Donna C. Youmans, 36, of the 500 block of James Ave., Dunkirk.

The impact caused both vehicles to strike a curb, forcing the Jeep onto its side and partially ejecting Mr. Marcellino, who was not wearing a seat belt, through a window.,

Police said a passenger in the Jeep, Lailani B. Titus, 24, of Pasadena, who also was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the Jeep and landed among shrubbery. She was listed in stable condition at the Prince George's County Trauma Center.

Mrs. Youmans was listed in stable condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Her son, Daniel, 9, a passenger in her car, was treated at Anne Arundel Medical Center and released. The woman and her son, police said, were wearing seat belts.

Police said excessive speed on the part of Mr. Marcellino contributed to the accident.
