Why did Poulet cross the road?

Fans of Poulet USA on York Road shouldn't spend too much time mourning its closing. A new Poulet opened in the Towson Town Center food court two weeks ago selling the popular rotisserie chicken. It's not a full-service restaurant as was its predecessor down the road. But owner Jonathan Soudry felt that Poulet simply didn't work as a sit-down eatery. "I realized too late," he says, "that a family restaurant needs more variety, and my concept works better when people can see the food as it's being prepared."

* The menu was "American typical meals" with "foodstuff PTC imported from USA (beef, crab)," according to the French press release. The occasion was a chefs' exchange. Central Maryland Chefs Association president Phillipe Bind (the Bread Place in Annapolis) and vice president Dean Batlas (the Harryman House) worked the week of March 13 at A l'ancienne Douane Restaurant in Strasbourg, France. No word yet on when we can expect French chefs in our restaurants here.

* This progressive dinner has all the amenities, including a bus to take you from course to course. The second annual Dine Around Annapolis, to be held this Sunday, will benefit Share Our Strength/Taste of the Nation's hunger relief. Stops will include Fergie's, Loew's Annapolis Hotel, Traditions at the Holiday Inn, Carrol's Creek Cafe, Pusser's and the Chart House. Cost is $50. Call (410) 360-3572 for more information.
