Cleveland Indians -- Signed former Orioles IF Bill Ripken to a minor-league contract.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Signed C Joe Oliver to a minor-league contract.

Milwaukee Bucks -- Signed G Tate George to a 10-day contract. Waived F Aaron Williams.

Minnesota Timberwolves -- Announced that assistant GM Kevin McHale agreed to become VP of basketball operations.

Philadelphia 76ers -- Activated former Washington Bullets G Jeff Malone from the injured list; he has missed the past 41 games.

Cal State-Northridge -- Football coach Bob Burt resigned, effective tomorrow.

Iona -- Men's basketball coach Jerry Welsh announced his retirement due to medical reasons. Named interim coach Tim Welsh full-time men's basketball coach.

Iowa State -- Announced that football coach Dan McCarney will keep his job after a review of reports that he abused his wife while an assistant coach at Wisconsin.

Cincinnati Bengals -- Signed unrestricted free-agent RB James Joseph.

Los Angeles Rams -- Re-signed free-agent LB Roman Phifer (96 tackles) to a four-year contract. Signed unrestricted free-agent WR Alexander Wright (16 receptions for the Los Angeles Raiders). Agreed to terms with two free agents, DB Torin Dorn and WR Turhon O'Bannon (a half-brother of Ed and Charles O'Bannon, who play basketball for UCLA).

San Francisco 49ers -- Signed OT Kirk Scrafford for $6.1 million over five years.

Seattle Seahawks -- Signed WR Jessie Hester (45 catches for 644 yards for the Rams) to a two-year, $1.1 million offer sheet.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) -- S Todd Wiseman announced his retirement.
