The search for Towson State's new athletic director has come down to the final four.

The school, which has conducted the search for the past six months, hopes to announce a replacement for the retiring Billy Hunter next week.

Sources at Towson State said the finalists are Rich Petriccione, who has been the athletic director at Iona College (N.Y.) for six years; Dr. Judith A. Davidson, who has been the athletic director at Central Connecticut State since 1988; Frank Pergolizzi, a fifth-year athletic director and football coach at St. Francis College (Pa.); and Wayne Edwards, who has been the athletic director at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell for eight years.

Sources added that Petriccione and Davidson were interviewed at the school last week and that Pergolizzi and Edwards will visit Towson State tomorrow and Friday.

More than 100 people applied for the position.

Hunter will step down in June after 11 years as athletic director. His replacement will take over a 21-sport program that is leaving the Big South Conference to join the North Atlantic Conference this summer.
