Boston Red Sox -- Assigned P Wes Brooks, P Thad Rowland, OF Andy Abad, IF Clyde "Pork Chop" Pough, IF Jason Friedman, IF Lou Merloni, IF Nick Ortiz and C Jeff Martin to the minor-league complex after they refused to play regular-season replacement games.

New York Yankees -- Gave season-ticket holders until April 30 to return their tickets and receive a full refund for unplayed games.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Announced that C Keith Osik became the first player from the farm system to agree to become a replacement player; he spent last season with Triple-A Buffalo and hit .212 with five homers and 33 RBIs in 83 games.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Optioned P Jose Silva to Double-A Knoxville.

Basketball

NBA -- Named Dallas Mavericks G Jason Kidd Player of the Week.

Boston Celtics -- Chose not to sign G James Blackwell to a contract for the remainder of the season upon the conclusion of his second 10-day contract.

Los Angeles Clippers -- Placed G Malik Sealy on the injured list with a strained left hip. Activated G Gary Grant.

Los Angeles Lakers -- Announced that F Cedric Ceballos, who had undergone surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb, and F Eddie Jones, who was recovering from a sprained right shoulder, were given medical clearance to practice.

San Antonio Spurs -- Placed F Dennis Rodman on the injured list with a third-degree separation of the acromioclavicular joint in his right shoulder. Activated F Julius Nwosu from the injured list.

Colleges

Centennial Conference -- Named Dickinson junior M Julie Martin (Garrison Forest) women's lacrosse Player of the Week.

East Carolina -- Women's basketball coach Rosie Thompson resigned.

Florida International -- Named Marcos "Shakey" Rodriguez men's basketball coach.

Georgia Southern -- Named Gregg Polinsky men's basketball coach.

Hartford -- Extended the contract of men's basketball coach Paul Brazeau through the 1998-99 season.

Illinois -- Kathy Lindsey, 50-87 record in five years as women's basketball coach, resigned.

Lander -- Announced the resignation of women's basketball coach Ann Williamson.

Long Island University -- Announced the resignation of men's basketball coach and AD Paul Lizzo.

St. Mary's, Calif. -- Named Jeff Brown football defensive coordinator.

L Southwest Missouri State -- Named Del Miller football coach.

West Virginia -- DL John Browning will forgo his final season and enter the NFL supplemental draft.

Football

Dallas Cowboys -- Reached agreement with four-time Pro Bowl C Ray Donaldson, a former Baltimore Colt, on a two-year, $1.6 million contract.

Los Angeles Raiders -- Signed TE Kerry Cash, who has started 48 of 52 games the past four seasons for the Indianapolis Colts.

Minnesota Vikings -- Announced that they will not match a $4.85 million offer sheet given by the New York Giants to DL Robert Harris.

New Orleans Saints -- DL Frank Warren, 35, who is third on the team's all-time sack list with 57 -- announced his retirement. Released backup QB Wade Wilson but left open the possibility they would re-sign him at a lower salary.

New York Jets -- Terminated the contract of S Brian Washington, who was the team MVP in 1992 when he had a career-high 108 tackles and six interceptions.

Hockey

NHL -- Named Philadelphia Flyers C Eric Lindros Player of the Week.

Hartford Whalers -- Signed C Jeff O'Neill, their first-round selection in the 1994 entry draft, to a four-year contract worth $3.5 million.
