Elementary school to hold spring fling

Elmer Wolfe Elementary School will have a spring fling from 10 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Saturday at the school, 115-119 N. Main St., Union Bridge.

The event will start with a Maryland Day program. Students in third through fifth grades will read poems and perform skits, and the school chorus and instrumental band will provide music.

School officials will make a video of the Maryland Day program to send to the governor. County Commissioners W. Benjamin Brown and Donald I. Dell, school board members Ann Ballard and Carolyn Scott, and Assistant Superintendent Gary Dunkleberger also are expected to attend. The event will feature games, children's crafts, a clown making balloon animals, food, a bake table, an auction from noon to 2:30 p.m., a book swap, plants and a Maryland State Police K-9 demonstration from noon to 2 p.m.

Proceeds will help buy computers for classrooms. Information: 775-7133.

FIRE

* Taneytown: Taneytown firefighters responded to an auto fire in the 500 block of E. Baltimore St. at 11:07 p.m. Sunday. They were out 15 minutes.

Firefighters from Taneytown, Harney and Union Bridge in Carroll County and from Adams County, Pa., were dispatched to investigate a report of a natural gas odor in a building in the first block of Frederick St. at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Units were out 16 minutes.
