Fourth-graders to prepare lunch for Maryland Day

Fourth-graders at Brooklyn Park Elementary School will celebrate Maryland Day on Friday as the culmination of their social studies unit about the state by preparing a lunch of crab soup, biscuits, fried chicken and Rice Krispie treats in the shape of Maryland.

Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy-Townsend will be their guest from noon until 1 p.m. State Comptroller Louis S. Goldstein will be on the scene at 2 p.m. Students will be wearing their custom-designed Maryland Day T-shirts.

The PTA and CAC for Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle School will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow. The band will perform at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at North County High School.

The Olde Brooklyn Park Improvement Association will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the cafeteria of Brooklyn Park Elementary School, 200 14th Ave. Verna Hartlove from Charm City Travel will discuss how to get the best deals for vacations and trips. Association members also will get an update on the community's fire hydrant situation.

A bull and oyster roast, sponsored by the American Legion Post 34, will be held from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion Hall on Belle Grove Road. Information: 789-9682.

North County High School's band will perform at a pre-festival concert at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the school auditorium. Seventeen of the band's 35 participants in the county competition at Magothy Middle School.
