Today's Games Ncaa Tournament Midwest Regional

March 19, 1995

At Austin, Texas

Game 1: Purdue (25-6) vs. Memphis (23-9).

Time: 2:30 p.m.

Outlook: Third-seeded Purdue didn't reach the second round until Wisconsin-Green Bay's Eric Jackson missed a clear 15-foot shot that swirled off the rim as time expired, giving the Boilermakers a one-point victory Friday night. Sixth-seeded Memphis, which hadn't played Louisville since 1991, the year the Tigers left the Metro Conference for the Great Midwest, got 16 points and six rebounds from Lorenzen Wright and 14 points and nine rebounds from David Vaughn to dominate the Cardinals on Friday night.

Game 2: Syracuse (20-9) vs. Arkansas (28-6).

Time: Approximately 5 p.m.

TV: Channel 13

Outlook: Coach Jim Boeheim said his seventh-seeded Orangemen responded from a season-ending slump with the best offensive game a Syracuse team has ever played in the NCAA tournament in Friday's victory over Southern Illinois. The Orangemen, who had lost seven of their last 10 games, made 67.9 percent from the field behind John Wallace and Lucious Jackson. Second-seeded Arkansas took a one-point victory in its first-round game only because 15th-seeded Texas Southern +V missed key free throws down the stretch.
