Outlook: Weber State, the 14th seed, upset third-seeded Michigan State on Friday to end the 24-year coaching career of the Spartans' Jud Heathcote. Ruben Nembhard scored 27 points and Jimmy DeGraffenreid made four three-pointers to lead the Big Sky Conference tournament champions. The Hoyas, who have not advanced past the second round since 1989, beat Xavier on Friday night behind 16 points from freshman point guard Allen Iverson.

Game 2: Iowa State (23-10) vs. North Carolina (25-5).

Time: Approximately 2:45 p.m.

TV: Channel 13.

Outlook: North Carolina, which has starters Rasheed Wallace and Dante Calabria slowed by ankle injuries, will try to avoid duplicating its 1994 second-round ouster by Boston College. Serge Zwikker came off the Tar Heels' usually unproductive bench Friday to score a career-high 19 points in an 80-70 victory over Murray State. Julius Michalik, a 6-10 forward from Slovakia, made his last five shots and led a 13-2 game-ending run Friday that carried the seventh-seeded Cyclones over Florida. Michalik finished with 17 points.
