A 19-year-old Reisterstown man was critically injured when the auto in which he was riding ran off Sykesville Road in Eldersburg and sideswiped a utility pole early yesterday morning, state police said.

Jonathan A. Brooks of the first block of Jacob Lee Court was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after the 12:20 a.m. accident on Route 32 near Bartholow Road.

Officers said a 1991 Dodge Colt was southbound on the highway, with Mr. Brooks and Jason R. Citroni, 22, of the 1200 block of Nicodemus Road in Reisterstown, inside.

Trooper John Rose charged Mr. Citroni with driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving and driving while his license was suspended. Mr. Brooks was in critical condition yesterday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
