Moscatelli's 6 lead No. 8 Duke in 19-5 romp

Senior midfielder Ross Moscatelli scored a career-high six goals, including five in the first half, to pace No. 8 Duke to a 19-5 victory over Colgate yesterday in Durham, N.C.

The Blue Devils are 4-1. Colgate fell to 0-2.

Moscatelli opened the scoring 52 seconds into the contest with an unassisted goal and finished with three goals in the first quarter. He added an assist in the second quarter to finish with seven points. Senior Scott Harrison scored two goals, as the Blue Devils opened an 11-1 second-quarter lead.

Eleven Duke players scored, including freshman Ben Quayle, who scored his first career goal in the fourth quarter. His father, former Vice President Dan Quayle, was at the game at Duke Lacrosse Stadium.

Joby Fowler and John Schulze paced Colgate with two goals apiece.

Duke plays host to 11th-ranked Navy at 2 p.m. Saturday.

* Catonsville CC 31, Harford CC 7: Freshman attack Mark Magnon (Australia) contributed 10 points, five on assists, to lead host Catonsville Community College (1-0) over Harford CC (0-1) in Maryland JuCo League action.


* Johns Hopkins 16, Salisbury State 6: Jenn Ward scored six goals to pace visiting Johns Hopkins (2-0) past Salisbury State (0-1). The Blue Jays outshot the Sea Gulls 42-14.

Flossy Owens led Salisbury State with a hat trick.

Salisbury State's Shawna Block and Kristin Archer combined for 24 saves. Anita Patibandla had eight for Johns Hopkins.
