North Carolina tops Lehigh, 12-11, in third overtime

Midfielder Jason Wade ended the longest game in Tar Heels men's lacrosse history last night when his goal at 3:49 of the third overtime gave No. 7 North Carolina a 12-11 victory over Lehigh in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Wade's goal came off an assist by Brendan Carey. North Carolina's last overtime win was against Virginia, 10-9, in the 1986 NCAA championship game.

Neither team led by more than two goals. The Engineers (0-2) held a 4-2 lead in the first half before the Tar Heels took the lead twice.

Lehigh tied the game at 10 with 2:46 remaining. Jude Collins gave North Carolina (3-1) an 11-10 lead with 14 seconds left before Lehigh's Matt Hinton scored on an extra-man opportunity to send the game into overtime.

* Duke 19, Colgate 5: Senior midfielder Ross Moscatelli led 11 Blue Devils scorers with a career-high six goals, including five in the first half, to pace No. 8 Duke past Colgate in Durham, N.C.

The Blue Devils are 4-1. Colgate fell to 0-2.

* Catonsville CC 31, Harford CC 7: Mark Magnon, a freshman from Australia, contributed 10 points, five on assists, to lead host Catonsville Community College (1-0) over Harford CC (0-1) in Maryland JuCo League action.


* Johns Hopkins 16, Salisbury State 6: Jenn Ward scored six goals to pace visiting Johns Hopkins (2-0) past Salisbury State (0-1). The Blue Jays outshot the Sea Gulls 42-14.

Flossy Owens led Salisbury State with a hat trick.
