Robbery attempt is unsuccessful at bank machine

March 15, 1995

A Columbia man at a drive-through automated teller machine drove off after another man banged on his car window and demanded cash Saturday night, Howard County police said.

The would-be robber did not show a weapon during the robbery attempt in the 8800 block of Centre Park Drive in Columbia's Oakland Mills village, police said.

Police said the would-be robber parked his car in a lane next to the Columbia man's car and waited until he stopped his vehicle to withdraw cash at 7:30 p.m.

After the man made a withdrawal, the would-be robber rushed to his passenger side window and ordered the man to give him cash. But he drove away before he could be robbed, police said.

The would-be robber was described as a black male standing above 5 feet 5 inches, having an average build and wearing a white jacket. His vehicle appeared to be a small, light gray foreign car, police said.
