A 92-year-old Finksburg man, who apparently became disoriented when he left his home Saturday evening, was found dead later that night lying face down in a stream by his son, state police said yesterday.

The man, identified as James Melvin Kay of the 2900 block of Hughes Road was found about 150 feet from his house in Beaver Run Creek by his son, James Fenby Kay. The water was about 1 foot deep, state police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Richard Jones, an associate medical examiner.

Mr. Kay left his home without his glasses, was wearing his shoes on the opposite feet and may have been going to his son's house in the same block of Hughes Road, investigators said.

They believe the man may have stumbled and fallen into the stream. He was last seen at 6 p.m. and found at 8 p.m.

Dr. Jones said there were no external marks on the victim, and troopers said the man's death appears to have been accidental.
