U.S. Can Corp., an Oak Brook, Ill., can manufacturer, is adding about 40 workers to its plant in southeast Baltimore County.

The increase follows the closing of another factory in Philadelphia.

"This represents a deeper commitment from a national company," said Adam J. Wasserman, deputy director of the county's department of economic development. "This area has been reasonably attractive to these primary manufacturers."

The plant in the 1100 block of Todds Lane, which makes decorative tin cans, now has about 107 workers, according to a U.S. Can spokesman. The new jobs will be added in the near future, he said.

The decision to move the jobs to Baltimore, rather than to Ohio or Illinois, was influenced by a $70,000 training grant from the county and the state, the spokesman said.
