Man shot in legs for refusing to give robbers money

March 13, 1995

A Brooklyn Park man was shot in both legs Saturday night after he tried to fight off two robbers with a six-pack of beer.

Harry Raymond Barrett, 44, of the 200 block of Franklin Ave. was shot about 9:50 p.m. near Doris and Kramme avenues as he was on his way home from a neighborhood grocery store.

Police said Mr. Barrett was approached by two men who demanded his money. Rather than comply, he hit one of them with a six-pack of beer while shouting that the two men would have to kill him before they got his money, police said.

One of the men then produced a handgun and shot Mr. Barrett in the left leg. The bullet traveled through his left leg and lodged in his right calf, police said.

Mr. Barrett was released yesterday after being treated at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
