A state trooper and a state correctional officer were arrested and each was charged with disorderly conduct after a brawl early yesterday at a Pennsylvania Avenue after-hours club, city police said.

Officers arrested Trooper Maurice L. Jacobs, 24, who is assigned to the College Park barracks, outside Foxy's Den Club in the 2600 block of Pennsylvania Ave. Police said he appeared to be one of the leaders of a group of about 50 people that ignored police orders to disperse, said police spokesman Sam Ringgold.

About 4 a.m., club bouncers threw out a group that included the trooper after fighting broke out in the club, Mr. Ringgold said. Police arrived shortly afterward.

Correctional officer Dennis Taylor, 24, of West Baltimore, and Derek Lewis, 22, of the 6700 block of Townbrook Drive in Woodlawn, also were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct because they tried to intervene in Trooper Jacobs' arrest, police said.

The trooper, a two-year veteran, was suspended with pay

yesterday pending an investigation, said State Police spokesman Lt. Greg Shipley. The three men were released on their own recognizance.
