Vain resigns at Northeast

Saying he's "just taking a year off," Calvin Vain has resigned as girls basketball coach at Northeast High School.

Vain, who just completed his eighth season, said he wanted to spend more time with his daughter, Carrie, who will be a senior at Broadneck, and to do "some other things."

"I'll come back into coaching. I just haven't decided what," he said.

Vain took the Eagles to the playoffs six times, including a berth inthe state tournament in 1990.

He previously served as head girls basketball coach for two years at Annapolis -- leading the Panthers to the state tournament in 1982 -- and one at Broadneck, and as head women's coach for two seasons at Anne Arundel Community College.

He also worked as an assistant boys coach for one year at Annapolis and an assistant men's coach for one season at Anne Arundel CC.
