League suspends Spirit trio for game

The Spirit will be without three starters tomorrow night when it takes on the Dayton Dynamo at the Baltimore Arena.

National Professional Soccer League commissioner Steve Paxos suspended midfielder Jon Parry, forward Brad Smith and defender Lance Johnson for one game yesterday and fined each an undisclosed amount for their involvement in an altercation with the Kansas City Attack on Saturday.

Parry was ejected for punching the Attack's Goran Hunjak. Smith and Johnson were dismissed for leaving the penalty box after the brawl that followed interrupted the third period for 30 minutes. The Attack won the game, 11-10.

Spirit coach Dave MacWilliams also may be without veteran defender Tim Wittman, who has been bothered by a strained toe and back.

"We have guys capable of filling in and doing the job," MacWilliams said. "It just limits you on what you can and cannot do if you have an injury or need to make adjustments during the game."

MacWilliams said Michael Brady probably will start up front with Ricky Bush at midfield and Chris Morgan on defense, depending on Wittman's status.
