Fog hampers search for man who jumped

March 09, 1995

Fog cut short a search yesterday for a 31-year-old Herndon, Va., man who authorities think jumped off the Bay Bridge Tuesday.

Three people told police that a man stopped his white 1986 Toyota on the eastbound lanes of the bridge at 3:17 p.m. Tuesday, then leaped from the span, said Lori A. Vidil, spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. Police closed one lane briefly.

Police found a suicide note and a driver's license in the car. The man's relatives have been contacted, but authorities did not want to release his name until they had found his body.

Maryland Natural Resources Police and Coast Guard officials searched the shoreline and water Tuesday to no avail, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The search resumed at daybreak yesterday, but was stopped at midmorning because of the fog.
