All-Star Wrestling Classic features 25 state champions

Tonight's 13th annual senior All-Star Wrestling Classic at Johns Hopkins features 18 public school state champs -- 12 of whom are local -- and seven independent state champs (five local).

The 3A-4As, winners of six classics, have two-time state champs Mark Chesla (152) of Arundel and Sydney Billups (140) of Laurel, and one-time champs Paul Hultgren (130) and Mike DiLeonardi (145) of Old Mill, Insuk Choe (103) of Quince Orchard, Nick Franzetti (119) of Churchill, Sean Groszkowski (135) of Franklin, Adam Butts (171) of Meade and Adam Hoffman (hwt.) of Thomas Johnson.

Runners-up Jason Nagle (125) of Centennial, Don Patterson (189) of Old Mill and Dan Wilkinson (112) and John Pankhurst (160) also are 3A-4As.

The 1A-2As, three-time winners , boast the three-time state champion Kusick twins, Marty (103) and Mike (119); Francis Scott Key's two-time champs Randy Owings (140) and Zac Yinger (145); state champs Josh Ellin (125) of Owings Mills, Ryan Hersey (152) of Lackey, Kit Doran (160) of Aberdeen, Troumaine Graves (171) of Southern-AA and Shane Tiffany (189) of Catoctin.

State runners-up Bruce Pendles (119) and Mark Janus (hwt.) of Williamsport also are on the 1A-2As.

The private and parochials feature two-time National Prep champ Dan DeVivo (160) of Mount St. Joseph, one-time champs David Inkman (140) of Mount St. Joseph and Matt Allman (145) of DeMatha, and two-time runner-up Gino Amasia (112) of Calvert Hall.

Also featured are prep runners-up Brian Page (130) of DeMatha and Martius Harding (171) of McDonogh, state champs Greg Stottler (189) of John Carroll, Brian Kapp (125) of Calvert Hall, Ethan Goldberg (152) of Friends and state runner-up Kenny Hunter (hwt.) of Mount St. Joseph.
