Man arrested after robbery attempt

March 07, 1995

Howard County police arrested a 26-year-old Pennsylvania man after an alert clerk foiled an attempted robbery at a Columbia gas station Friday night.

Peter Anthony Stalheim was charged with attempted robbery and released from the Howard County Detention Center on $1,000 bond, a District Court commissioner said.

According to police, a man entered the Crown station in the 9100 block of Snowden River Parkway in Owen Brown Village at 7:13 p.m. Friday and announced a robbery. A clerk hit a holdup alarm, alerting authorities. An officer in a parking lot nearby drove to the station.

The man was arrested as he ran from the store.

Volunteers to conduct road speed studies

Volunteers from the Oakland Mills Traffic Action Committee and the village board will conduct speed studies for the Howard County Traffic Engineering Division, using a radar and speed display unit.

The unit will be operated along heavily traveled streets in Stevens Forest, primarily Stevens Forest, Kilimanjaro and Farewell roads.

The survey will be held for about two weeks, beginning in the middle of the month. Data will be used to evaluate traffic, not for enforcement purposes. Information: 730-4610.
