A Baltimore County police officer was injured yesterday when his patrol car was struck by a car whose driver was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police said Officer Chuck Massey, a member of the force for nine years and assigned to the Wilkens Precinct, was responding to a minor traffic accident at the Beltway Motel in the 3600 block of Washington Blvd. about 2:20 a.m. and was slowing down to turn onto the motel parking lot when his vehicle was struck in the rear by a Chevrolet Cavalier.

The impact, police said, caused Officer Massey's patrol car to spin completely around before going nose first into a ditch.

The officer was transported by ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The driver of the Cavalier, Andrew Sebastian Pope, 21, of the 1800 block of DeSoto Road, was uninjured and was charged with drunken driving after a Breathalyzer test.
