Woman threatened with rape thwarts her attacker, police say

March 06, 1995|By From Staff Reports

A woman who was threatened with rape at gunpoint early yesterday turned the tables on her attacker by grabbing the gun, firing a shot through a window of the car he was driving, then attracting the attention of police with more gunshots, police said.

The woman told Anne Arundel County Police that she met the man at the Crossroads Tavern in Glen Burnie Saturday night, and accepted his offer of a ride home. But en route, the man drew a .38-caliber revolver and told her "you're mine," police said.

Police said the woman wrestled the weapon from her attacker and fired a shot through the driver's side window. The assailant abandoned the car, and the woman ran toward her home, firing more shots as he ran after her, police said.

Police arrested Kevin Dale Skarson, 35, of the 800 block of Castle Road in Glen Burnie at the scene. He was charged with attempted rape, assault with intent to rape and a handgun violation.
