Top seed Florida A&M blew an 11-point lead but held on to defeat third-seeded Howard, 71-69, yesterday to win the women's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship game at Morgan State's Hill Field House.

The victory clinched the Rattlerettes' first NCAA tournament berth. Tournament MVP Cathy Robinson led the way with 26 points and 11rebounds.

Natalie White, the conference's player of the year, scored on a layup with less than two minutes left to give FAMU (24-5) a 68-57 lead. But Howard went on a 12-3 run to finish the game. The Lady Bison (16-12) got within 70-64 with 21 seconds left, then White hit the front end of a one-and-one to put FAMU up 71-64.

A jumper by Alisha Hill and a three-pointer by Melissa Young finished the scoring for Howard.
