Last chance

If you've been planning to skate at the Inner Harbor Ice Rink this winter, but just have not found the time, find the time today, because this is your last chance. The ice rink is open today from noon to 6 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. After that, the rink closes for the season. What are you waiting for? Nothing could be more invigorating than a winter skate in the great outdoors, especially with the great view of the Inner Harbor the Rash Field rink offers. What do you mean it's too cold to be outdoors? That's what warm coats, hats and mittens are for! Use them.

Baltimore on Ice, Inner Harbor Ice Rink, Rash Field, Key Highway. Noon to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 5. Cost for a two-hour session is $3.75. Skate rental is $1.75. Call (410) 385-0675.

Home show

It may be winter still, but that doesn't mean you can't dream about what the spring months will bring. You can get a head start on your garden planning now at the Maryland Home & Flower Show running March 9-12 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. View dozens of beautiful creations of flora designed by area contractors and get some pointers from ** the pros on how to make your own back yard a paradise. But don't forget your home's needs, too. If, like me, you've been cooped up in the house all winter staring at the walls, and hating the wallpaper more and more every day, this is the place to be. Not only will you learn more about how to perk up a room, but there will also be demonstrations of new products, crafts exhibits and even cooking demonstrations. If you can't wait until March 9 to see the show, you can go to a preview show on March 8 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Cost for the preview is $25 and includes hors d'oeuvres and entertainment. Proceeds from the preview night benefit Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity.

Maryland Home & Flower Show, Maryland State Fairgrounds, Timonium. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. March 9-10; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. March 11; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 12. Tickets to the preview party on March 8 are $25. Call (410) 435-0082 for tickets to the preview party only. Dancer and performance artist Claire Porter brings her presentation of "Portables" to Towson State University March 17-18 as part of TSU's Dance on the Edge series. Combining music, dance, theater with a healthy dose of comedy, Ms. Porter brings a wicked sense of fun to her pieces which can be both poignant and outrageous. Among the "Portables" cast of characters is the woman dining alone in a restaurant, getting drunker by the minute, waiting for no one. There's the fitness instructor leading the audience in an aerobic workout of the digestive system and the fund-raiser who will do just about anything to get money.

"Portables," Towson State University's Stephens Hall Theatre. 8 p.m. March 17-18. Tickets are $16, $14 seniors, $8 for students. Call (410) 830-ARTS.
