Woman hurt in collision with fire truck

March 03, 1995

A 18-year-old Sykesville woman was released after treatment at Carroll County General Hospital after her automobile was struck by a fire truck on Liberty Road at Johnsville Road about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Sarah Claire Kovacs of the 7300 block of Jennifer Way told state police she was northbound on Johnsville Road and did not see or hear the small brush truck of the Sykesville Fire Company and continued into the path of the emergency vehicle.

Officers said the fire truck was westbound on Liberty Road with siren and emergency lights in use when it collided with Ms. Kovacs' 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier, causing it to overturn.

The driver of the brush truck, Lawrence E. Doyle, 48, of Marriottsville was not injured. The fire unit was responding to assist with a medic call on Piney Ridge Drive.

Trooper William Heiser charged Ms. Kovacs with failure to grant right of way to an emergency vehicle.
