:That's right, folks...

That's right, folks. It's hot, it's hype, it's the U.S. Hot Rod Grand Slam of Motorsports at the Baltimore Arena at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

You know all about it: MONSTER TRUCKS making a din, jumping ramps, crushing cars and, whatever this phrase from the promotional literature means, "munching metal." Not to mention, you'll witness Quad Wars -- races among four-wheeled carts as they roar over hill and dale with an occasional mishap. Don't forget another attraction on the same card -- Cycle Wars (same stuff, but on two wheels).

And finally, Jennifer Smith, the Human Cannonball, will arc gracefully and, we hope, safely through the air into a net. Admission. Tickets available at all Ticketmaster locations and the arena box office. Information: 347-2020. Here's a sampling of other things to do around the Inner Harbor this weekend. . .

* Skate. One more week before the Inner Harbor Ice Rink at Rash Field closes for the year March 12. Information: 385-0675.

* Learn. About Baltimore's infamous Nunnery Riot of 1839. It seems that in August of 1839, folks rioted in front of a Carmelite nunnery. A play at the 1840 House of the City Life Museums will depict the fracas at noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow. Admission. Information: 396-3523.

* "Seal-abrate." Do you know what a pinniped is?* Hint: The National Aquarium's observing the International Day of the Seal from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Pool-side feeding of the seals will occur at 10 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Information: 576-3870. (* A pinniped is a fin-footed creature.)

* Build. The kids can build all kinds of stuff during a Kids Korner promotion from noon to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow on the second level of the Gallery at Harborplace. Free. Information: 332-4191.

If your organization has something planned for the Inner Harbor area -- loosely defined as the immediate Inner Harbor, the Federal Hill area, the greater Oriole Park at Camden Yards section, Little Italy and over to Fells Point and Canton -- let us know. Send it to us by fax at 752-6049, or address it to Around the Inner Harbor, Metropolitan News Desk, The Baltimore Sun, 501 N. Calvert St., Baltimore 21278-0001.
