Educational fund accepting applications for scholarships

The Ernest E. Wooden Educational Fund is accepting applications.

The purpose of the fund, sponsored by Farmers and Merchants Bank, is to help young people who otherwise may not be able to further their education.

The award is based on applicants' ability to achieve. Recipients of the awards are not limited to academic work but may pursue vocational training in the trades and professions.

Previous winners of the Ernest E. Wooden Educational Fund scholarships are eligible to reapply.

Family members of directors, officers and selection committee members of the education fund are not eligible.

This year the fund will award five scholarships up to $1,200 each.

Applications are available at Farmers Merchants Bank and must be received by March 17.

Drive to bolster Food Bank Network

Second Harvest National Food Bank Network will benefit from a food drive through March 18.

Martin's Food Markets will accept donations from the community at its 64 locations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Shoppers can donate nonperishable goods at the stores in Westminster and Eldersburg.

Martin's management hopes to fill hundreds of grocery carts with food donations.

On March 19, 16 Martin's tractor-trailers will travel from store to store, almost 2,500 miles, to pick up food donations.

Martin's is owned by Giant Food Stores of Carlisle, Pa.

Carroll bank's parent declares 1dividend

The board of directors of Mason-Dixon Bancshares, parent corporation of Carroll County Bank and Trust Co., has declared a first quarter dividend of 12 cents per share. The dividend, payable March 15, will be paid to stockholders of record tomorrow.

Earnings for the year ending Dec. 31, 1994, totaled $6,612,382 and represent a 1.34 percent return on assets and 15.28 percent return on stockholders' equity.

Headquartered in Westminster, Carroll County Bank and Trust Co. operates 11 offices in Carroll County with an office in Ellicott City.
