CO-COACHES OF THE YEAR

Mark Rhine & Nancy Schroeder, Fallston -- After graduating 10 from a 12-2 team of a year ago, the Cougars had only two seniors. But the coaches directed a balanced group that placed first in three meets and finished with a 12-5 record. Among the boys, Ben Newhart and Mike Taylor were the only Fallston representatives (one apiece) among the top five fastest times for each event, and among the girls, Katy Novotny and Paige McCarthy were the only ones in the top 10.

GIRLS

Swimmer of the Year -- Kathy Rising, Bel Air, Sr. -- She completed an undefeated breaststroke season, and four-year All-County domination of the event with a record 1 minute, 7.63 seconds in the county championships. During her career, she lowered the county breaststroke record each year and won four successive county titles in the event (13 gold medals overall).
