Caps deal Burridge for draft pick

February 11, 1995|By Sandra McKee

The Washington Capitals traded left wing Randy Burridge to the Los Angeles Kings for left wing Warren Rychel yesterday, then traded Rychel to Toronto for the Maple Leafs' fourth-round draft pick in 1995 or 1997, at the Caps' option.

"Randy asked to be traded," said Caps general manager David Poile. "He's a veteran who feels he should be given more of an opportunity to play, and with the way we've been playing, it's an arguable point and the answers aren't always crystal clear."

Burridge, who joined Washington in 1991, came back from double knee surgery and contributed 25 goals and 17 assists last season. But he has played in only two games this season and did not have a point.

The Caps are carrying one extra forward and two extra defensemen.
