County police arrested a Landsdowne woman Monday afternoon in the attempted theft of tools and a telephone from the Sears store in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway.
Danny McCumbers, 19, a security officer at the store, told police he noticed a woman carrying two power drills about 4:30 p.m. The woman put the drills inside a Sears bag she had taken from behind a cash register and began to leave the store without paying for them, he said.
Other security officers stopped the woman and recovered the drills, worth a total of $320, and a cordless phone worth $180, police said.
Lorie Dawn Sirbaugh, 29, of the 1400 block of Brunswick Road, was charged with felony theft, police said.
Man arrested after struggle
County police arrested a Curtis Bay man Saturday afternoon after a Northern District officer was dragged several feet by a car as the officer was trying to search it for a handgun.
Police said yesterday that Officer Mark Metzler had gone to a home in the 700 block of Cotter Road shortly before 3:30 p.m. to investigate the theft of a .45-caliber handgun. The homeowner pointed out a suspect who was in the house the night before and who had returned, police said.
The man denied taking the gun and gave Officer Metzler permission to search the car. But he got in before Officer Metzler could start his search and tried to drive off. When the patrolman reached inside to stop him, the man accelerated, dragging Officer Metzler with him, police said. He hit a parked car in front of him, another behind him, then tried to flee on foot, but the officer stopped him. Officer Metzler found the gun under the driver's seat, police said.
Shawn James Sullivan, 19, of the 4100 block of Grace Ct. in Curtis Bay was charged with felony theft, assault and battery, resisting arrest and transporting a handgun in a vehicle, police said.
