A family man BABE RUTH 100 YEARS

Ruth's first marriage, to Boston waitress Helen Woodford, was troubled by reports of his infidelity. They had separated by 1926, and after Helen's death in a 1929 fire, Babe married his longtime companion, Claire Hodgson. They lived with Babe's adopted daughter from his first marriage and Claire's daughter from a previous marriage. Claire limited Babe's excesses, and he seemed to appreciated the motherly influence.
