January 31, 1995

A Baltimore woman was arrested Sunday afternoon in the theft of $229 worth of men's clothing from the Macy's store at Marley Station, county police said yesterday.

Mathew Redlinger, 31, a security officer at the store, said he saw a woman put a man's coat worth $165 under her arm about 4:30 p.m. and leave the store without paying for it. Mr. Redlinger stopped the woman and found that she also was carrying a $64 shirt. A Northern District officer arrested her, police said.

Shannon Christine Shorey, 18, of the 2000 block of Whistler Ave. in Morrell Park, was charged with misdemeanor theft, police said.

Man hit in groin by drive-by shooter

A Glen Burnie man told county police he was shot in the groin early Saturday by one of three youths riding by in a car.

Patrick Martineau, 23, said he was walking in the 500 block of Furnace Branch Road about 1 a.m. when a dark gray Chevrolet Monte Carlo with three male passengers drove by slowly. Two of the passengers ducked down, and Mr. Martineau heard two shots from a pellet gun, police said.

The victim felt a sting in his groin and the car sped off, heading south on Furnace Branch Road. Mr. Martineau noticed a red mark on his groin when he got home but did not seek treatment. He was able to get the first two digits of the car's tag number and give them to police, authorities said.
