Bowled Over

January 30, 1995

San Francisco quarterback Steve Young celebrates while teammates help receiver Jerry Rice up after a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Yesterday's Super Bowl turned out to be everything it was supposed to be -- a rout for the 49ers.

Led by Young's record six touchdown passes, San Francisco rolled to a 49-26 victory over the San Diego Chargers at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami.

The 49ers' Rice and Ricky Watters each scored three touchdowns.

"We wanted to come here and do something special," 49ers' coach George Siefert said. "We wanted to make history."

The victory made the 49ers the first team to win five Super Bowls. The 49ers also gave the National Football Conference its 11th consecutive Super Bowl victory.
