One killed, 4 injured in two-car accident

January 30, 1995

One person was killed and four others injured when two vehicles collided at the intersection of Harford Road and Taylor Ave. late last night, Baltimore County police said.

The driver of one of the vehicles was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police said Virginia Lowry, 79, of the 5400 block of Knell Ave. in Parkville, was driving a 1984 Chevrolet station wagon south in the 7700 block of Harford Road around 10 p.m. when she attempted to turn left onto Taylor Avenue.

Before completing the turn, the right passenger side of her car was struck by a northbound 1989 Ford truck driven by Michael Stephen Ralston, 21, of the first block of Rose Petal Court, also in Parkville.

Else Schwarzkopf, 84, of the 7800 block of Clarksworth Place, a passenger in the front seat of the station wagon, died later at Good Samaritan Hospital. Ms. Lowry and two other passengers, the dead woman's 91-year-old husband and a third elderly passenger, were treated for non-life threatening injuries at hospitals. Police said Mr. Ralston also was treated for injuries before being arrested for driving while intoxicated.
