Barbershop quartet can deliver your valentine

January 30, 1995|By CINDY PARR

I have a suggestion for those looking for something good this Valentine's Day.

The county chapter of the Old Line Statesmen Barbershop Chorus is offering barbershop quartets from the chorus to sing for Valentine's Day weekend, Feb. 11 through Feb. 14.

Jesse Miller, immediate past president of the Carroll County chapter said, "Our singing valentines include a barbershop quartet which comes to you and performs 'Heart of My Hearts,' and 'I Love You Truly.' We send a fifth person along who carries a card, a heart-shaped box of chocolates and a long-stemmed silk rose which they give to the person receiving the valentine."

The valentine quartets will visit homes, businesses, offices, nursing homes or hospitals -- anywhere within 30 minutes of Westminster.

The cost of the package is $30 and reservations are required so the quartets can meet all their engagements.

Mr. Miller said the local chapter has 43 members.

The singing valentines serve as a fund-raising effort for the chorus, which supports vocal music education in area schools and other projects.

A portion of the proceeds from this year's program will go to Heartspring, a speech and hearing disorder treatment facility in Wichita, Kan.
